What is preventive work?

Preventive work aims to prevent or reduce the risk of future problems, injuries, or negative events by taking action in advance. It means actively taking initiatives and measures to prevent or reduce the occurrence of problems or risks before they occur. Preventive work can be applied in various fields, including health, safety, crime prevention, environmental protection, and many other areas. Early interventions focus on supporting and strengthening individuals and communities to prevent problems. This may involve early interventions in schools, in democracy, in leisure, and support for our most vulnerable – children and young people.

Meaningful leisure time

Meaningful, safe and enjoyable leisure time is essential for preventing negative outcomes. This includes activities and workshops in areas such as sports, democracy, art, culture and other interests that provide children with a safe space, while also giving them the tools to grow into active and democratic citizens.

Through more activities, workshops and training, we not only increase knowledge but also give children and young people a place to build relationships and develop a sense of belonging. This is preventive work in practice, helping to reduce the risk of poor health, crime and harmful behaviour by offering positive alternatives to destructive activities.

We offer activities to thousands of children and young people, from the local to the international level. An active and meaningful leisure time is one of the most effective ways to prevent social exclusion and strengthen a sense of community. No children in prison!

Children should not become symbols in politics. Locking up children does not solve any problems, it is symbolic politics that does not work. What is needed is preventive measures, support and safe contexts. Stand up for children’s rights.
